Nick Cummins shocked the nation when he dumped both Brittany Hockley and Sophie Tieman on the final episode of The Bachelor.
And in a preview for the Sunday Project, Lisa Wilkinson is seen grilling the sports star on why he signed onto The Bachelor in the first place.
After admitting to going into the competition as ‘a boy’ and not a man, the host remarked: ‘You’re meant to be at a place where you’re ready to have a relationship.’
A preview of the interview to air on Sunday’s The Project, sees a red-faced Nick prepared to answer questions on why he left the competition solo.
Dressed casually in a navy button-up shirt and trousers, the 30-year-old tells Lisa that he went into the competition as ‘a boy’, hinting at not having been ready for a relationship.
‘Going in I felt I was almost a boy compared to how I see things now,’ Nick offers.
However Lisa, 58, does not let the former Wallaby player off easy, questioning why he would sign onto The Bachelor with those thoughts.
‘But you do understand on The Bachelor you’re meant to be at a place where you’re ready to have a relationship?’
A red-faced Nick appears at a loss for words, and is seen bowing and shaking his head as he tries to muster a response.
Meanwhile a later segment in the clip sees devastated contestants Brittany Hockley and Brooke Blurton sharing their thoughts on the outcome of the current season.
‘I don’t understand how we didn’t end up together,’ radiographer Brittany, 30, says on camera.
While Brooke, 23, remarked in between tears: ‘My whole life has just been exposed… I wanted it to be worth it’.
Thursday night’s dramatic grand finale episode saw Nick leaving the competition solo, having dumped both Brittany and Sophie.
Nick began to tell Brittany: ‘You were just a force, a force of nature. You’re an amazing woman.
‘I’ve developed strong feelings for you Brittany. And I know you’re ready.’
However Nick shocked viewers when he continued: ‘When I say those three words, I want to really mean it.
‘I’m not looking for a girlfriend I’m looking for a life partner. And right now, I can’t give 100 per cent to you. My head, is very clouded. Right now, I’m a little bit lost.
‘I have to say that this time has come to an end and I’m letting you go,’ Nick added.
He’d earlier given a similar speech to Sophie before also dumping her.
‘Sophie it’s been a hell of journey… not only are you amazingly beautiful and smart I realised you’ve brought out something in me that’s untapped,’ he said.
‘I like you a lot Sophie,’ Nick said to the blonde property valuer.
But he added: ‘I am not able with all my conscience to wholeheartedly commit to you right now’.
Once in the limousine, an upset Brittany realised that the rugby star had picked no one and demanded to see fellow contestant Sophie.
Speaking to a producer in the car, the radiographer admitted that appearing on the show was ‘a giant waste of time’.
‘[I want to see Sophie to] make sure she’s okay,’ she said on camera.
‘I definitely need to tell Sophie everything,’ she added, referring to what happened during her dramatic breakup with Nick.
As the two women rushed to console one another, a devastated Nick admitted he did not find what he was looking for.
‘I hate hurting people and I have done that twice today,’ he said in a piece to camera.
‘I just know in my heart that I did the right thing. There are two amazing women walking out of my life right now.
‘It wouldn’t be fair to enter into something that a few months down the track I would be breaking her heart.
‘I came here for a chance at love. Now I have to start again. She’s out there,’ the former Wallaby lamented.
Sophie and Brittany then met with one another at the hotel, and laughed and cried as they embraced and made sense of what happened.
‘It’s almost laughable. He didn’t pick me either?’ Brittany said.
‘I’m sorry but are you f***ing kidding me,’ Sophie said, as the ladies laughed.
‘I don’t know what he’s looking for. I feel sorry for him. He’s very. He’s got to be very lost. Do you know what. It’s Nick’s loss,’ the radiographer concluded.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph after the finale aired, both Brittany and Sophie expressed that they felt cheated.
‘I did not see it coming. I think I was left pretty speechless. There is a level of embarrassment – you ask yourself, “Is there something wrong with me?” Brittany said.
Sophie meanwhile revealed she felt angered that the footy player, who has left Australia and is on 11-day Kokoda Tour in Papua New Guinea, left the women alone to pick up the pieces.
The Queenslander said: ‘It is hard knowing he isn’t here. He has chosen not to be here, he’s off gallivanting the world.’
Doubts that the footballer was ready to pick either woman were raised partway through the episode when the sportsman took Brittany on her very last solo date and came close to breaking up with her there and then.
During the evening, the brunette poured her heart out to Nick about her feelings for him, but he raised his concerns about the future of their relationship.
‘I don’t think the timelines match,’ Nick revealed to the stunned hopeful.
Nick came close to saying the classic line, ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ as he insinuated ‘he’ was getting in the way of his decision.
‘Imagine pouring your heart out to somebody and getting nothing back!’ Brittney said after the awkward confrontation.
Doubts were also raised by the footballer’s sister Bernadette who shocked viewers when she said neither of leading ladies vying for his affections were right for him.
‘Neither is not the complete package,’ his blonde sibling said on camera.
Nick repeatedly confessed that he felt confused and was struggling to make a decision throughout the episode.
‘My head’s all over the shop. Which one is the right one for me? Who am I meant to be with?’ Nick wondered.
In the end he chose neither woman and the response from fans on Twitter was predictably furious.
‘I think Nick Cummins just killed The Bachelor. Who is coming back to watch after that?’ one fan wrote.
‘What a massive waste of time and money …the badger is a flop,’ another disappointed fan vented on social media.
Continuing the anger, someone else added: ‘What a massive waste of time indeed! Nick Cummins you are about to be one of the most hated men in Australia.’
