A baby boy has died almost a year after he was allegedly assaulted by his father.
Homicide detectives are now involved after one year-old Nathaniel MacRae died at a Golden Bay home on Perth’s outskirts on Sunday night.
Police allege the death is linked to an assault the boy allegedly suffered on October 9 last year.
At that time he was taken to Narrogin Regional Hospital before he was transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital and later released.
Nathaniel suffered bleeding on the brain and blindness as a result of the alleged assault.
His father, Michael Ashley MacRae, 25, was charged with grievous bodily harm at the time of the incident.
He pleaded not guilty and is currently behind bars awaiting a trial allocation.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and while a cause of death has not been released they allege it is linked to injuries suffered last year.
No further arrests or charges have been made at this stage.
